Spider Pest Control Services
New Zealand is home to about 2500 kinds of spiders, most of them harmless to people. However, just because they’re harmless doesn’t mean they aren’t a nuisance! Spider webs can make your home or business look untidy and can be a nightmare to clean. Spiders can also attract larger bugs, who will eat them and cause a new infestation. PCS Pest Control can help you to come up with a long-term solution that will keep spiders at bay, and keep your property looking great, both inside and out.
Spiders in Auckland
Only some spiders are capable of biting humans. There are three species of spiders in New Zealand that should be avoided – the Katipo, the Redback and the White-tailed Spider.
In Auckland, you may encounter the following species of spiders:
- the Avondale spider
- the Banded tunnel web spider
- the Black-headed jumping spider
- the Daddy long legs spider
- the Golden orb web spider
- the Grey house spider
- the Katipo spider
- the Nursery web spider
- the Sheet web spider
- the Slater spider
- the Vagrant spider
- the White-tailed spider
- the Wolf spider
The katipo is one of only two species of spiders venomous to people in New Zealand, but it is very rare to find these spiders in or around houses, and there is a safe and effective anti-venom for katipo bites.
White-tailed spiders aren’t venomous, but they do have a nasty bite that is immediately painful, and can cause swelling, redness, and itchiness.
